When the lithium battery is assembled or the finished battery pack is stored for a long time, due to the different static power consumption of each circuit of the protection board and the self-discharge rate of every single battery, the voltage of every single battery is inconsistent. During the charging process, the voltage of each cell rises at a different rate, resulting in an increase in the voltage difference of the battery pack. The highest voltage series of the single cell triggers the BMS overvoltage protection in advance, causing the entire battery to stop charging. Low-voltage cells cannot be fully charged, and high-voltage cells cannot be discharged. The battery capacity is reduced and the lifespan is shortened. Equalization is a key technique to resolve cell-unit differences. Commonly used methods are discharge equalization and charge equalization. Balance has the effect of balancing the voltage of the lithium battery pack, so as to achieve the effect of full charge and full discharge of the battery pack capacity, restore the battery pack to the maximum capacity, and prolong the service life of the battery pack.
